Real Estate Investment Trusts

Real Estate Investment Trusts Shopping CenterReal estate investment trust (REITs) is a tax designation for corporations or groups of people to invest in different kinds of real estate or real estate related assets, such as shopping centers, office buildings, hotels, and mortgages secured by real estate. This designation reduces or eliminates the corporate income tax. However, as a REIT, the company must pay 90% of its taxable income to shareholders every year. They also must invest at least 75% of total assets in real estate and generate 75% or more of its gross income from investments in or mortgages on real property.

Cherrytree Group, LLC advises, working with The Transactional Law Group,  REIT clients, underwriters, managers, and boards of directors, on all types of legal matters and transactions affecting REITs.  In addition to providing organization, planning and compliance advice, Cherrtryee and THe Transactional Law Group handle complex matters involving taxation, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate finance, corporate governance, and securities law.
